NFPA 70B Becomes an Industry Standard

Learn how the recent changes may impact your business

NFPA 70B Standard for Electrical Equipment Maintenance details preventive maintenance for electrical equipment to improve reliability and worker safety. In 2023, NFPA 70B evolved from a recommended practice into an industry standard, solidifying that its provisions are now enforceable. Some recommended practices were deemed unnecessary and removed, leaving only strictly prescriptive language. The remaining content was reworded, replacing words like "should" with words like "shall,” thereby reiterating the provisions’ importance and enforceability.
